Mountain Light Workshop 2009 : I attended an Eastern Sierra Landscape Workshop organized by Mountain Light Gallery (http://mountainlight.com/) and led by John Shaw (http://johnshawphoto.com/) with the enthusiastic assistance of Jerry Dodrill (http://www.jerrydodrill.com/). We didn't have good weather (for photography!), nothing but clear blue skies, but it was a great learning experience.

Eastern Sierra Labor Day 2009 : My first trip to the Eastern Sierra in 2009! I'll be back in a few weeks for Fall photography but for now I'm focussing on some hiking with photo diversions such as a trip to Bodie (always a lot of fun) and Mono Lake. I finally made it to Devil's Postpile National Monument although too late in the season for good results at Rainbow or Minaret Falls.

Eastern Sierra 2008 : Some photos from a trip to the Eastern Sierra with my friend Indranil. It was a 3 day rush but we managed to spend some time among the Bristlecone Pines of the White Mountains and explore the Alabama Hills area for the first time.
No trip to the Eastern Sierra is complete without a Mono Lake sunrise! I like the early pastel colors but there was not much color as the sun rose.
The Bristlecone Pines are the oldest living organisms (known) although often very little of a tree is still living. Brutal weather at the tree line has distorted them into fantastic gnarled shapes.
The Alabama Hills west of Lone Pine is a very strange landscape that has been used since the 1920s for many movies and TV series: in the past many Westerns and Star Trek, more recently Ironman and Transformers:Revenge of the Fallen. Dotted around the bouldered landscape are dozens of natural arches (mostly tiny compared to Arches NP!), which most photographers use to frame Mount Whitney.

Yosemite May 2009 : A short trip to Yosemite, the highlights were the hike out to Wapama Falls (Hetch Hetchy) and Moonbows at Yosemite Falls. Since my last Moonbow attempt in 2004 prediction tables have appeared on line and it is now much easier to capture the effect. Now that I have discovered that I plan to make the trip again at peak time next year.

Death Valley Thanksgiving 2008 : I traveled back to Death Valley over Thanksgiving. The temperatures are much easier to handle at this time of year! It actually rained the day I was traveling there which resulted n a lot of mud on the roads although fortunately few closures. Unfortunately, it ruined the Stovepipe Wells sand dunes for now, the slightly damp sand is really holding on to footprints and there are many people here right now...

Eastern Sierra Fall 2008 : I made a trip into the Eastern Sierra to try and catch the Fall Colors. Peak color clashed with Miramar 2008 this year and I chose the air show! The following weekend a big storm hit and made conditions quite interesting. Tioga Pass was closed while I was driving slowly down through a blizzard, last car down escaping a long detour! Leaves were gone in many places and still green in others but unlikely to change given the weather.
